Being an apartment dweller I never think much about curb appeal, and while I’m pretty sure our future house is more likely to be white, I fantasize about having a black exterior. Most of the ones I’ve seen that have made me stop breathing are some sort of cottage cabin farmhouse and the boldness of the black makes them so alluring and modern. Many take after Danish summer houses, which are timely for this confused seasonal transition where we’re excited for fall but down to take an idyllic look back at summer. Let’s.
Minus this one in the snow, but isn’t it dreamy?
Anyone getting Edward vibes with this one…^
I get that there are practicality factors to consider going so dark, especially with living somewhere like sunny LA, but I still find the idea irresistible. It’s also one of the few home ideas that O is enthusiastic about and surprisingly made him want to look for one in LA that we could just drive by and admire from afar (there aren’t any according to our limited and short-lived research, makes sense.)
The last full month of summer! At first I was feeling like not a whole lot happened in August, but then I go to write this post and I’m like dang that was a good month. That’s exactly why I love doing this.
MONTREAL
Montreal was an amazing trip and I still think about it often. I started to miss eating poutine everyday, but I’m ok now thank goodness. It made my itch for traveling even bigger and I’m bugging out to go somewhere else again soon, though nothing international until next year (honeymoon YEA). If you missed that post, I shared a travel guide to Montreal here.
Yes still really excited about and still think this seat we had was SO cute.
DOGSITTING
I’m that friend who will jump at lightspeed while squealing to take care of your dog while you’re gone. Few things get me more excited and the weekend I spent with this adorable guy was precious. My love for dogs is tremendous and while we know we are going to adopt, now is not the best time for us to do it, but we will when it is because we have dog-shaped holes in our hearts.
HOUSEWARMING
Molly threw the best party of summer with her amazing housewarming and served my favorite thing to eat. How bangin is this charcuterie spread? Homemade pickled veggies??
Best of all was catching up with everyone like Sarah and Eden. Nothing much better than eating a ton of meat and cheese and wine and potato balls and meat pies and brownies and lemon bars with favorite people.
BEDROOM
Finishing our bedroom is the proudest thing I’ve done for our home and sometimes I’m in disbelief that it looks like this. It has come a crazy long way and took a LOT more time than I kept saying it would, but it was so so worth nurturing every detail and holding out for the minimalist bedroom I thought was impossible for my hoarder tendencies. The space really works for us and we live so comfortably in it- it’s a dream. More details on the bedroom here!
READING
I’m thinking of adding in a monthly book with this series, mostly for my own accountability to keep reading regularly but also it might be helpful to find good reads for anyone interested. I found this book to be such an uplifting and mind altering read, coming in at a critical time where I’m feeling the creativity slump that plagues me regularly. For anyone in any kind of slump (or even not) and open for a kick in the butt to get up and go do something about it, this can be your guide/inspiration to make your obstacles actionable opportunities. The premise might seem obvious and cliche, but it’s a concept that’s extremely easy to forget especially for those of us that get inside our heads and stress out easily about everything (1000% me). I’m on my second read-through to take notes this time.

We’re headed to Chicago for the long weekend to visit O’s family which will be the first time since our engagement, which didn’t happen that long ago but it’s still fun to think of time in that way ha! It’s a pretty regular trip we take and I’m always excited to see everyone + reunite with my beautiful hometown. We won’t be doing much other than hanging out with family, which means no jam-packed itinerary or extensive exploring and more like eating Italian beef sandwiches and DQ dipped cones. I travel with my stomach in the driver’s seat.
Whatever we do, I’ll be posting that mostly I think on Snapchat (@homeyohmy). The uncertainty is that I still haven’t figured out the ridiculously enthralling Snapchat vs IG story dilemma and have been doing both but not so much in general because it’s all been too much and I can’t decide where to hang out, so I’ve been hanging out less. I’ve been thinking about chatting with you guys about the state of social but it’s really nothing new, just that everyone generally agrees that less of that is better for quality of life. Still, I love connecting and hearing from you guys over that format and it’s why I keep up with it at all, so don’t hesitate to say hi or let me know how you’re doing, here, there, anywhere :)
Have a wonderful holiday weekend!
I love this Swedish home. Both surprised and not surprised at how much I enjoy the accent wall color in the kitchen.
Am I late to this? Watch the whole thing. I laughed so hard. Her face is the best.
No instructions, but could be fairly simple to figure out the DIY on this cute lamp.
I put a ton of priority on establishing a morning routine but not nearly enough for a night time routine which is just as important.
Maybe I’m partial because I know them, but a few of my guy friends made a video of their hike in Alaska and it’s one of the most stunning things I’ve seen.
